MUAR: The Chinese community leaders here have joined their Muslim counterparts in hosting Hari Raya open house to celebrate the festive season with residents for the third year running in this town.
Special officer to the Mentri Besar for the Bentayan constituency Chris Lee handed out duit raya to children at the function.
Speaking to villagers in Kampung Pengkalan Tiram, he said Malaysia is a blessed country where people from the different races celebrated one anothers festive seasons.
“We are truly blessed to live in such a country where we not only celebrate the festive seasons of the different races we observed the occasions.
“This year we decided to organise our Hari Raya open house in Kampung Pengkalan Tiram here,” he said, before giving duit raya to some 100 children.
Earlier, Ledang MP Hamim Samuri and wife Asiah Mohd Nor hosted their open house at the Diamond Jubilee Hall in Tangkak where they also feted about 40 special children.
Hamim said it had been a tradition for his wife to include the special children from all races in the parliamentary to attend their Hari Raya open house.
Besides Hamim, Jorak assemblyman Datuk Dr Shahruddin Salleh, Bukit Serampang assemblyman Tahir Taat and district officer Mislan Karmani also hosted theit Hari Raya open house recently.
Dr Shahruddin held his open house in Bukit Pasir which was also attended by the Pagoh MCA division leaders headed by party chairman Gan Hong Su.
Tahir, on the other hand, held his Hari Raya open house in Grisek near Bukit Serampang and Mislan held his open house at his official residence in Tanjung Emas.
