Besides celebrating the country's 54th year of independence, the event also marked the third year anniversary of Ledang being declared a district.
Ledang was under Muar before it was declared a district.
Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman and his wife, Professor Datin Dr Jamilah Ariffin were the guests-of-honour.
Ketupat-shaped lanterns were raised to mark the launch of the celebrations.
Also present were Ledang member of parliament Hamim Samuri, Tangkak state assemblyman Goh Tee Tee, Bukit Serampang state assemblyman Tahir Taat, Gambir state assemblyman M. Asojan and Ledang District Officer Ab Han Ramin and other community leaders.
Schoolchildren as young as 9 performed Malay, Chinese and Indian cultural dances. They received a rousing applause from the audience for their performance.
Another crowd-pleaser was a show by the Ghazal Warisan Seni troupe, which played songs from all the different cultures.
A group of youths also performed the kompang, lion dance and Indian drums.
