SEGAMAT: The road linking Segamat, Muar and Tangkak will undergo major upgrading works to help smoothen traffic flow in the area.
Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Mansor said that the ministry through its Public Works Department would not only upgrade the road but also upgrade 19 bridges between Segamat and Tangkak.
He said that out of 19 bridges, 14 would be built to ease traffic congestion in Segamat.
“The roads linking Segamat, Muar and Tangkak needs to be improved as more than 30,000 vehicles use it on a daily basis.
“The ministry was also informed that many accidents including fatal ones have been recorded in the area,” he said when met at the project site here recently.
He added that roadworks would take place in phases and the project would commence in middle of November.
Shaziman also said the cost of the whole project was about RM770mil and the first phase was expected to be completed within the next two years.
He said that the route which was about 63km would be expanded from two lanes to four lanes.
“Once completed, the route will result in easier access from the North-South Higway to Segamat from the Tangkak toll,” he said.
Human Resources Minister and Segamat MP Datuk Dr S.Subramaniam said the project would benefit the people of Segamat and help boost growth in the district.
“It is a new start for Segamat and it will help lure in new investors to the area.
“The road will also benefit the people economically as those from east coast can use this new route to Muar or Johor Baru,” he said.
