Its chief Fahariyah Md Nordin said the cookies, including almond nuts and chocolate cornflakes, were prepared by 60 Puteri members at the Johor Community College near Tangkak.
She said besides making the cookies, the members would also receive special certificates related to bakery from the college’s director Sapiah Aluan.
We decided to make the cookies for the poor families as they already received rice, cash and other food items from other parties, including from Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.
We discussed our project with the college which agreed to give its fullest cooperation, including using its bakery building to bake the cookies, she said at the college recently.
Fahariyah said Ledang MP Hamim Samuri also agreed to join the project and called it baking for charity as the cookies were meant for the poor families.
Meanwhile, Hamim said it was the first time such a project was carried out by Puteri Umno Ledang and he felt such charity work should be supported.
He said Puteri members would begin distributing the cookies as soon as possible as they wanted the poor families to receive the cookies before Hari Raya Puasa.
He said the project would not only impart bakery knowledge among the members, it also helps them obtain cookie baking certificates issued by the college.
He said the college also provided chefs and other technical staff to teach Puteri members about baking, including using the various machines in the bakery building.
We hope some members, especially those from the villages, can set up cookie-making businesses after they received their bakery certificates, he added.
