TANGKAK: A senior citizen with diabetes, who has been on dialysis for the past five years in Kampung Kesang Laut near here, could only shed tears when Ledang MP Hamim Samuri paid a visit to his house.
Baba Mohammad, 70, who is also bedridden and has speech and hearing difficulties, felt so touched when he saw Hamim enter his house followed by several Ledang Wanita Umno leaders.
Hamim, who brought along cash and food items, including rice, told Baba that the visit was part of his Ziarah Ramadan programme to visit all needy people in his parliamentary constituency.
“We were informed by village head Muda Daud about Baba’s diabetic problem and decided to visit him. We were shocked to see him lying on the floor at the back area of the house and being looked after by his wife Peah Ahmad,” he said on Wednesday.
Hamim said Baba had to undergo treatment, sponsored by Johor Baitulmal, three times a week at a dialysis centre.
He said the Ziarah Ramadan programme involved the division’s Wanita wing, which sent about 25 members to help distribute Ramadan aid to the needy in Ledang.
He said the wing had identified 28 poor families in the Serom constituency, 21 families in Tangkak and another 22 families in the Gambir constituency, which the group would visit during Ramadan.
Ledang Wanita acting vice-chairman Khairin Nisa Ismail said the programme was aimed at easing the plight of the needy during Ramadan.
