MUAR: Five people were killed after the vehicle they were
travelling in crashed into a trailer-lorry parked along Batu 8, Jalan
Muar-Tangkak in Bukit Kangkar, near here, yesterday.
In the 5.30am incident, the deceased were identified as driver Jasila Othman, 43, and her sisters, Rokiah, 62, and Mahani, 56. The other victims were Rokiah's husband, Basiron Kasiran, 74, and Jasila's aunt, Ramlah Bakar, 66.
The multi-purpose vehicle's three other passengers were injured. They are Siti Hajar Abdul Rahim, 30, Siti Nor Ain, 23, and Siti Nor Suhada, 20, who are Mahani's daughters. They are being treated at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital.
Jasila's daughter, Siti Nurul Huda Hasan, 20, said her mother and her family members were on their way home from Kuantan after a wedding when the incident happened.
Siti Nurul Huda had called her mother at 1am to ask whether they would be staying overnight in Kuantan.
"My mother was driving at the time and my cousin answered the call. She said they were on their way home and would arrive in Muar about 6am," said Siti Nurul Huda, who was informed about the incident by relatives.
Ledang police chief Superintendent Harun Idris confirmed the incident.
