By HAMDAN RAJA ABDULLAH

TANGKAK: After 25 years, villagers in Bukit Gambir and Serom will soon have access to the North-South Expressway.

Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the Plus highway concessionaire had agreed to build a tolled interchange in Simpang Lima near Bukit Gambir.

Speaking to reporters here, Abdul Ghani said he met the Plus management in Johor Baru recently and was told about a toll plaza project for Simpang Lima.

“We want to thank Plus for the decision to build the plaza near Bukit Gambir. We know the villagers in the surrounding areas will be happy.

Making progress: Abdul Ghani discussing development projects with Ledang district officer Amran Abdul Rahman (second from left) while Ledang MP Hamim Samuri (left) and Tangkak assemblyman Goh Ti Ti (third from left) look on during the visit to Serom recently.

“They wanted the plaza near Bukit Gambir 25 years ago and will soon have it,” he said during a visit to Serom recently.

Abdul Ghani added that a second link road in Muar that goes through Ledang district to Malacca would be beautified soon.

Ledang district officer Amran Abdul Rahman said the Mentri Besar had been instructed to look into the matter.

He said, with the opening of the Jasin toll plaza several years ago, motorists could use the Jasin route as a second link to Muar.

“Some parts along the stretch to Malacca are beautiful because of the landscaped. We want the local government in Ledang and the district office to plan landscaping programmes on the Johor side of the road,” he said.
