APART from enforcing laws to ensure peace and safety on the roads,
the Road Transport Department (RTD) is also reaching out to the
community.
The department is doing this by organising numerous programmes to improve ties with the public.
Thus, its Muar branch's Dakwah Bureau had recently organised
Kembara Insaniah 2014, a programme in collaboration with the Village
Development and Security Committee (JKKK) at Parit Kassan near Bukit
Gambir here.
The programme was declared open by Deputy International Trade and
Industry Minister Datuk Hamim Samuri at the Masjid Jamek Parit Kassan.
RTD Muar branch chief Azmil Zainal Adnan said the expedition was
aimed at reaching out to the villagers, namely, the youth at mosques and
surau.
Azmil said the event was a joint effort with the Parit Kassan Umno youth wing, with the full support of Umno Ledang branch.
"This is the second time the Dakwah Bureau has organised such an
expedition. Last year, we conducted outreach programmes at the Madrasah
At-Tarbiah Tahfiz Sungai Pulai in Seri Menanti, Muar.
"This year, we chose to have it at Kampung Parit Kassan to foster
the camaraderie between the department's personnel and the villagers.
"Activities like this can enhance the spirit of cooperation in a
community and forge close ties between the department and the local
folk."
Azmil said some 200 people attended the programme, which include
senior RTD Muar officers, members of the Muar Bikers and Umno Ledang
Youth Wing.
There was also a gotong-royong programme to clean-up the mosques,
and participants recited prayers at the Bukit Kundur Muslim cemetery
there.
The womenfolk also joined the Muar RTD officers to prepare bubur lambuk.
Hamim, who is also the Ledang MP, encouraged the youth to foster a spirit of cooperation while working in a group.
He said the spirit of helping one another is a practice of the Muslim community that should be maintained to create unity.
"One needs to be nurtured at a young age and such activities will
ensure that. The villagers still uphold the long-standing tradition of
mutual respect as they will attend weddings, funerals and other
gatherings," Hamim said.
Kampung Parit Kassan village chief Hamzah Mohd Basar thanked RTD Muar for including the village as one of its stopovers .
Umno Youth Parit Kassan branch chief Nor Hazrin Namam, said the
programme has proven to be effective as many youth had attended the
event.
Nor Hazrin also urged the youth to register as a squad member for the 1JPJ Young Malaysians programme.
"By joining the programme, the youth can assist RTD to improve road safety measures," Nor Hazrin said.
