TANGKAK: Seven Umno branch chiefs including former Serom assemblyman, Dr Abdul Razak Minhat have quit the party today, pledging their support for the Pakatan Harapan government.
The group's spokesman, Abd Hamid A Majid said they made the decision after acknowledging that the call for change coming from the people had turned out to be true.
He said the group was also willing to give their full support to the new state government and help achieve PH's agenda of realising a new and more vibrant Malaysia.
"We realise that staying loyal to the opposition (Barisan Nasional) will only cause disunity among society here,
"This will also lead to some quarters of the society being left out." he said.
Apart from Abd Hamid, who is Kampung Sungai Jaya Umno branch head and Abdul Razak, the other five who quit Umno are Captain (B) Mohd Yasir Mohed (Kampung Datuk Ngah); Saruni Bari (Kampung Seri Menanti); Abas Jais (Taman Sri Jaya); Miskam Mahmod (Kampung Sungai Rambai) and Mastor Abd Rahman (Kampung Parit Ghani).
Serom is part of the Ledang parliamentary constituency.
