ELDERLY MAN KILLED AND HIS WIFE INJURED BY MACHETE-WIELDING WOMAN

TANGKAK: A senior citizen was killed and his wife injured when a woman, believed to be mentally disturbed, slashed them in Bukit Gambir here on Tuesday.

Mohd Reduan Haron, 73, from Kampung Kerinchi, was killed on the spot after he was slashed on the head, shoulder and had his finger severed in the 10.41am incident.

His wife, Juriah Dimiyati, 61, was slashed on her head and suffered injuries to her skull after the attacker, aged 22, assaulted them at their house Tuesday.

The young woman from Kampung Sawah Ring, first kicked the door and shouted that someone had intended to rape her.

She then grabbed two machetes and started attacking the old couple and Juriah shouted for her husband to grab the machetes.

However, Mohd Reduan failed to grab the machetes and was slashed several times on the head and shoulder before collapsing.

The attacker than slashed Juriah on the head three times before she crawled out of her house and asked for help.

“Some neighbours who heard my calls for help arrived and tried to calm the attacker,” Juriah said.

“My sister, who lives nearby also came and comforted me,” she said when met at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Ledang police chief Supt Harun Idris said police had detained the attacker who was believed to be suffering from some mental problems.

“We will investigate the incident and the motive behind the attack,” he added.
