SILAT sendeng has been chosen as the official silat of Johor. The Johor Heritage Foundation (YWJ) will decide on how the silat is to be promoted in the country.
Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman says silat sendeng belongs to the Malays of Johor |
Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said silat sendeng was chosen as it was created and founded in Johor and therefore carried the identity of the state.
He said the state government wants to promote silat sendeng the way it has been promoting zapin, which is integral to the state.
"Silat sendeng is officially owned by the Malays of Johor as it was created and founded by a Johorean 54 years ago in Bukit Kangkar, near Sungai Mati in the district of Ledang," said Ghani.
He said this at the opening of the silat sendeng official gathering at Dataran Ledang recently.
"Therefore, it is appropriate for the state government to recognise silat sendeng as the official silat of Johor. This silat has its history and there are guidelines."
