LEDANG: More than 10,000 guests from all walks of life thronged
the residence of Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman in
Sungai Mati, near here, yesterday.
Among the dignitaries were MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua
Soi Lek, Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Chua
Tee Yong, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Razali Ibrahim, Deputy
State Assembly Speaker Datuk Othman Jais, state executive council
members, Barisan Nasional and community leaders and heads of government
departments.
Ghani and wife Professor Datin Paduka Dr Jamilah Ariffin greeted the guests at the entrance.
Nurse Iza Salim, 38, of Sungai Abong, Muar, came for the first time with her five children.
"I enjoyed it. There was so much food to eat and my children were also given duit raya.
She said the event was in the 1Malaysia spirit with people of all races and backgrounds attending.
Housewife M. Thamilselvi, 50, of Tangkak, came for the first time with her son, M. Jlyayaraja, and daughter.
She said the multiracial atmosphere was a good sign of country's peace and prosperity.
Furniture maker, Chua Lee Seng, 62, of Muar, said this was the fifth time he attended Ghani's open house.
"It is amazing to see thousands of people queuing up just to meet Ghani. This is something we do not see in foreign countries."
