LEDANG: More than 3,000 residents attended the "open house" of
Ledang member of parliament Hamim Samuri at the Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan
Ibrahim Tangkak in Ledang.
The muhibbah spirit was evident in the gathering.
Hamim said the gathering was aimed at strengthening ties among the different ethnic groups.
"It is only at such gatherings that the community leaders meet the grassroots. Together we can chat over nasi briyani, ketupat, roti canai and cendol sagu rumbia," he said.
"The open-house concept must be embraced during the festive season as it fosters closer ties in the community.
"We also have Marhaban (Muslim prayer group) teams visiting old folks' homes in conjunction with the festive season.
"The practice of visiting the underprivileged is still very much alive among the local folk," Hamim said.
