JOHOR URGES FEDERAL GOVT TO FINALISE WASTE MANAGEMENT

LEDANG: The Johor state government wants the Federal government to resolve the ineffective and inefficient waste management system in Johor quickly.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the issue was important because the company consigned to manage waste disposal and management by the Federal government in the state for the past 15 years had failed to carry out its responsibilities effectively.

"We do not have an efficient system in waste management and that has angered the people," he told reporters after hosting a Hari Raya open house at his residence in Sungai Mati here Sunday.

Abdul Ghani said in line with the enactment on waste management and disposal, that was decided in Parliament recently, Johor hoped the waste management and disposal system would be fully privatised by early next year.

He also denied claims by DAP that the state government was not doing anything after closing the landfill in Bakri, Muar.

"A new site in Pagoh, Muar has been identified and relocation to the new site will take about two years to complete," he said.

Abdul Ghani added that the state government had allocated RM30mil to upgrade the drainage system in Bandar Maharani since the area was regularly affected by flash floods. - Bernama
