JOHOR BARU: Malaysians must unite in rejecting those who interpret the constitution for their own gains.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said that those with their own interpretations could take the constitution a form of discrimination.
“We as Malaysians must reject these people.
“This must be done to ensure the unity of the nation’s diverse races,” he said after launching the Integration Assembly in conjunction with a Unity Month celebration recently.
Abdul Ghani said the constitution was the best enactment to ensure the people’s rights were taken care of regardless of race.
“The proof is that the rakyat has been living peacefully for more than half a century.
“We also experience strong growth as a nation,” he said.
He said that people must understand and appreciate the constitution for it to be practiced in the spirit of harmony.
“Sacrifice is crucial for every individual so that everyone can learn to compromise for unity,” he said.
Meanwhile, Johor Unity, Human Resource, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman M. Asojan, who also attended the event, said the Integration Assembly was needed as it promoted unity among the people. Among the other dignitaries who attended were National Unity and Integration Department director general Datuk Azmin Amin Hassan, state executive councillors and assemblymen.
