MISSING BANANAS MAY BE SOLVED WITH MAN'S ARREST

A MAN suspected to be a member of a robbery gang has been arrested in Taman Tangkak Jaya, Tangkak, during Ops Tapis recently.

Known as JM, 34, he is believed to be behind 20 cases of armed robberies, snatch thefts and motorcycle thefts.

He is also believed to be involved in nine cases of banana and scrap rubber thefts in the district.

Ledang police chief Superintendent Harun Idris said JM had been linked to a number of criminal activities in Tangkak, Bukit Gambir, Gersik and Sungai Mati.

He said police were locating the other gang members.

"After arresting two of the gang members, we are confident of solving a number of cases in the district," he said.

He added that the two suspects, both drug addicts, were willing to steal anything to get money.

In the operation, police also arrested a 29-year-old rubber tapper for stealing farm produce and motorcycles.

They also arrested two foreigners aged 19 and 26.

The foreigners were believed to be involved in theft and robbery.
