GHANI: THERE ARE JOBS IN SCIENCE AND MATHS

By HAMDAN RAJA ABDULLAH

MUAR: Thousands of job opportunities will be available in the Iskandar Malaysia growth region for those with knowledge in mathematics and science.

Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the state's new economic corridor was expected to hire those with qualifications in such areas in the next two or three years.

He said that schools, including SM Sains Muar, should focus on the nation's human capital development needs and produce knowledgeable students.

“Besides science and mathematics, we need those who can master languages, including English and Mandarin,” he said when launching SM Sains Muar's 25th anniversary celebration on Friday.

Abdul Ghani said that Malaysian students could master any language, including English, if the languages were taught to them from Year One to Secondary Five.

He said the schools needed effective ways to enable students to master languages, and not just through science and mathematics.

He said although SM Sains Muar was located in the new Ledang district, he agreed with the school board to retain its name instead of changing it to SM Sains Ledang.

“This will give us an opportunity to ask for another science school in Ledang which we can call SM Sains Ledang,” he added.
