95% OF JOHOR'S RUKUN TETANGGA SECTORS ARE ACTIVE

MOST of the 498 Rukun Tetangga (RT) sectors in the state are active with only 5% deemed inactive.

Johor Unity, Human Resources, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman M. Asojan said most of the 145,376 RT members were involved in a host of activities besides their daily neighbourhood patrols.

“The members consist of residents from all walks of life including Kadazan, Iban, orang asli and senior citizens.

In May, 2,112 activities were organised involving all the state's members,” he said.

Asojan said the programme involved 64% Malays, 25% Chinese, 9% Indians and 2% other races including Kadazan and Iban.

He was responding to questions from Chia Song Cheng (BN - Pengkalan Rinting ), Ayub Jamil (BN - Rengit) and Cheong Chin Liang (BN - Bukit Batu).

On another issue, State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Md Jais Sarday said that Johor recorded 27 gold medals, 31 silver and 40 bronze at Sukma in Terengganu recently.

He said there was an improvement in this year’s competition compared to two years ago when the state clinched 19 gold, 18 silver and 27 bronze medals.

“The improvement is positive although we didn’t achieve our target of 40 golds,” he said.

Md Jais said that two Sukma athletes, Siti Fatimah Mohamad and Mohd Faiz Musa, achieved records in athletics and weightlifting respectively.

“Siti Fatimah recorded 11.83secs in the 100m sprint and 3 minutes 13 seconds in the 4x400m hurdles.

“Mohd Faiz lifted 295kg in the 130kg category,” he said.
