THE Gambir state assembly coordinating committee recently gave out 2,000 Jalur Gemilang T-shirts to 30 community leaders as part of the National Day celebrations.

The event was held at the Gambir state assemblyman service centre near the Bukit Gambir multipurpose hall.

Committee chairman M. Asojan said the effort was to liven up the the 54th National Day celebrations in the area.

"This year, our National Day falls on Hari Raya, that's why the Merdeka celebrations will be held earlier," he said.

Asojan, who is also the Gambir state assemblyman, said each of the 58 villages in his constituency had been allocated 20 flags to be placed in homes and on vehicles.

Asojan said the flags are part of the 100,000 Jalur Gemilang which were contributed by the state government.

"The number of Jalur Gemilang being flown at premises is still low despite the launch of the National Day campaign on July 27," he said.
