TANGKAK: A rest and recreational (R&R) area will be built along the road to Gunung Ledang this year, to attract more visitors to the mountain.
Ledang district officer Ab. Han Ramin said the road leading to the mountain from Tangkak, would be upgraded and beautified as well.
He said this would improve the image of the town, which has been known as a textile town.
“There are areas behind the rows of shops along the Tangkak main road and near the Tangkak mosque for shoppers to park their vehicles.
“There are lanes or walkways from the parking areas to the shops in the town,” he said here recently.
Ab. Han, who is also the Ledang district council president, said more than RM12mil had been allocated to build and improve public infrastructures.
He said the allocation covered the building of roads, drains and construction of streetlights in several small towns, housing areas, recreational spots and playgrounds.
He said some RM2.7mil of the allocation would be channelled for upgrading public infrastructure at Grisek, RM3.6mil to Kundang Ulu, RM3mil in Tanjung Agas and RM3mil for recreational spots at Gunung Ledang.
“We will undertake the projects in stages and will focus on streetlights at certain areas, including some housing schemes.
“We want to light up as many areas as possible as this can curb crime as well as vice activities at these recreational areas,” he added.
