THREE security company employees in Ledang, Johor, narrowly escaped death in a road accident, recently.

The van the trio were travelling in from Bukit Gambir, heading towards Kolej Matrikulasi Johor, for a maintenance task, overturned and spunned several times before coming to a halt.

"It all happened in a split second and I heard my colleagues crying out in pain," said security guard Muhamad Izwan Othman, 27, who was sitting behind the van driver, Nurul Akmal Mohd Hazin.

Nurul, 24, fractured a shoulder while technician Mohd Ridzuan Paiman, 22, sustained a head injury.

Izwan said people from a nearby village helped to pull out Akmal and Ridzuan.

Akmal and Ridzuan were treated at Hospital Tangkak.

"I thank God the van did not hit a lamp post or plunge into a ravine nearby, otherwise we would have more seriously injured," said Izwan. -- By Shenton Thomas De Silva
