THE state government will identify families earning less than RM2,000 a month, next year, so that their children will receive aid for admission into professional training centres.

Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the state government hoped this would help children of poor families to get into training centres and work towards certificates and diplomas within the next two to four years.

"We will choose children from low-income families who have sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination," Ghani said, after handing contributions to poor families for Deepavali in Tangkak recently.

It is believed that 30 per cent of Johor residents earn less than RM3,000 monthly.

The event was organised by the Association of State Assemblymen's Wives (Juita).

Datin Paduka Professor Jamilah Ariffin, the MB's wife who is also president of Juita, was at the function.
