Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said parents should not depend just on schools for their children's success.

"At the same time, they should also avoid putting unnecessary pressure on their children, but take steps to address the problems that they face," he said at the 39th Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of SK Parit Kasan in Ledang here recently.

Also present was Gambir assemblyman M. Asojan, Ledang assistant district officer Mustaffa Kamal Shamsuddin, SK Parit Kasan PTA president Padil Md Amin and headmistress Nik Fauziah Nik Yusoh.

Ghani said parents can take pro-active measures which include sending their children for extra classes in an effort to address their shortcomings.

"At the same time, parents can work together with the school's management to assist the pupil or child who is weak academically," he said.

The menteri besar presented UPSR Academic Excellence awards to UPSR pupils at the event. Among the other highlights were a Tualang Tiga and Zapin dance performances by the schoolchildren.
