THE attitude of motorists towards traffic laws is important to avoid accidents.

Road Transport Department (RTD) director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said road accident statistics showed that 60 per cent of road fatalities involved motorcyclists and pillion riders.

He said there must be emphasis to teach motorcyclists to be responsible on the road.

"Accidents involving younger motorcyclists are due to lack of knowledge of traffic laws," said Solah, adding the RTD's recent rural services efforts focussed on getting senior citizens their B2 licences.

He said this after closing the One Community One Johor RTD programme ceremony together with the Serom State Assembly Districts Coordinating Committee on May 22. -- By Shenton Thomas De Silva
