Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman joined the Chinese community in Ledang in celebrating the arrival of the Year of the Tiger.

The open house held at SJK(C) Chi Ming 1 in Tangkak was attended by over 1,000 people.

The number includes the Chinese as well as other races in the spirit of 1Malaysia.

Also present were Abdul Ghani's wife Datin Paduka Professor Dr Jamilah Ariffin, Ledang MP Hamim Samuri and Tangkak state assemblyman Goh Tee Tee.

Guests enjoyed a sumptuous dinner with favourite Malaysian dishes like nasi briyani. There were plenty of Mandarin oranges to go around.

They were then entertained by a variety of performances, including a lion dance, traditional Chinese drums and Chinese cultural show.

A fireworks display set the sky ablaze with light and colour.

Ghani, accompanied by his wife, gamely joined the drum troupes on stage to have a go.

The couple then presented ang pow to the lion dancers.

Ghani also officially opened the school's new basketball stadium, which will also function as the activity centre for the community.

With the stadium, the folk of Ledang now have a place to hold community-based activities like gatherings, meetings and sports.

The event was organised by the Ledang MCA division.
