BOY LOSES 4 FINGERS IN ESCALATOR FALL

LEDANG (Johor): A 2-year-old boy lost four fingers when he fell on an escalator at a shopping mall in Tanjong Agas here on Thursday.

Mohamad Faizal Ahmad was standing on the descending escalator when he lost his balance and fell in the 6.45pm incident.

The middle and ring fingers of both his hands were caught between the moving steps.

His middle fingers were crushed and his ring fingers severed.

Faizal was with his 18-year-old cousin, who works in one of the outlets at the mall.

The injured boy was rushed to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar and transferred to Kuala Lumpur Hospital in an attempt to reattach his ring fingers.

His father, Ahmad Imran, 37, said the doctors told him that his son's middle fingers could not be saved as they were crushed.

"I am praying that doctors can reattach my son's ring fingers."

Ahmad said he was informed by those present during the incident that the escalator had not been functioning properly.

"This caused my son to lose his balance and fall."

He said he had lodged a report at the Muar police headquarters.
