At the event organised by the Muar Labour Department, youths eager to get jobs were given the opportunity to meet prospective employers who had set up counters at the fair.

Department senior assistant director Shafee Mohd Noh said the one-day programme, which was held from 9am to 5pm, received good response.

"Eighteen companies in the manufacturing and production sectors set up counters, offering 575 positions in their respective industries.

"Apart from registering with us, visitors were able to ask questions and gauge their chances based on their qualifications and skills," he said.

Shafee, who launched the programme, said it was open to youths aged 18 to 35, including degree and diploma holders from local and foreign institutions of higher learning.

There were vacancies for accountants, marketing officers, clerks, cashiers and production operators.

Shafee said the youths were also invited to register for the various courses offered by the department.

A visitor, who only wanted to be known as Salleh, said the department should expand the programme to the rural areas to allow more youths to look for jobs or register themselves as unemployed.
