LEDANG: A collaboration between  Ledang district police and the Tangkak District Council (MDT)  led to the the arrests of four people and the seizure of 170 gambling machines worth RM350,000 in Ledang recently.

This was following a series of raids on five gambling premises in the district.

Initial investigations showed that the premises were operating without licences   since late last year.

Ledang police chief Superintendent Harun Idris said the authorities acted  following complaints from the public and also surveillance by the police.

He said the first raid was conducted on a premises in Jalan Suria 2 on April 30 where 48 machines were seized and a  suspect  detained.

This was followed by a raid at another premise in Jalan Paya Mas, where 23 central processing units, 23 video consoles and 21 monitors were seized and one suspect arrested.

"Following further investigations, we raided a cyber cafe in Jalan Muar the next day.

"On May 2, we raided two more premises in Taman Paya Mas and Serom Utama near Sungai Mati," said Harun, adding that two more suspects were arrested and more machines were seized at these premises.

He said the police believed that these premises were offering gambling activities, and that  the computers can be used as  gambling machines using a special chip.

"Checks showed that the premises were operating without licenses," Harun said.
