Johor to build 90 more religious schools

MUAR: Johor will build another 90 religious schools costing more than RM130mil in the next two years.

Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said school construction projects had been delayed for a while because the state had to focus on improving roads in the rural areas the last four years.

“Now that we have completed the road projects, we will focus on building the religious schools,” he told residents in Taman Tanjung Gading before opening Surau Al-Fauzan in the area yesterday.

Abdul Ghani said the state spent about RM130mil annually on its religious school programme, which included salaries for about 5,000 teachers in 500 schools in Johor.

He added that there were plans to build another 30 new mosques this year.

Over the past 14 years, he said the Government had spent more than RM200mil on mosque projects.
