TANGKAK: Ledang was officially declared the 10th district in the state in a ceremony here officiated by the Sultan of Johor Sultan Iskandar Ismail.
At the launch, Sultan Iskandar congratulated the people of Ledang on the historic occasion and said he hoped the state government would provide better service to the people.
“I hope that development will be brought to the district,” he said.
He also instructed all state government officials and staff to work with sincerity and responsibility in carrying out their duties.
“The people here must also be united and work together,” he said.
He was accompanied by his consort, Sultanah Zanariah Tunku Ahmad, and several dignitaries from the royal family and the state government, including Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.
The 39,265ha Ledang, which borders Malacca, has a population of 132,778 people and was previously known as daerah kecil Tangkak.
The six sub-districts under Ledang include Tangkak, Kundang Telok Rimba, Kesang, Serom, Gersik and Bukit Serampang.
