Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said the regional development would promote faster economic growth and create more jobs.

He said Johor recorded high turnover in wholesale, retail, restaurant and hotel businesses.

"Our main aim is to provide better facilities and services to consumers," he said at the opening of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) Muar office and the launching of the e-Info service in Muar recently.

Shahrir said SSM had set up branch offices in all states, including Sabah and Sarawak.

He said with the Muar office, there was no need for people in north Johor to go to Malacca or Johor Baru, adding that this would cut their travel expenses and save time.

SSM Muar covers company registration for Muar, Batu Pahat, Segamat and Ledang, which have 12,058 registered companies.

The new e-Info service includes financial comparison (FC e-Info) and company charges (CC e-Info), which provide information on investments, joint ventures and takeovers.
