LEDANG SET TO BECOME JOHOR'S NEWEST DISTRICT

TANGKAK: Johor's newest district – Daerah Ledang – will be officially proclaimed on June 9.

Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said yesterday preparations were being made to celebrate the event and the proclamation will be made by Sultan Iskandar Sultan Ismail at Dataran Ledang here.

Besides Ledang, the state government will also upgrade the status of Kulai from a sub-district into a full district this year, he said after launching the Ledang-level Al Ansar Club.

Abdul Ghani said the district with a population of 58,501, along with Kulai, would be Johor's 9th and 10th districts respectively.

He said the upgrade would boost economic and development growth in the two districts as all business and development applications would be approved faster.

Earlier, he said the Al-Ansar clubs, formed by the Religious Department after floods hit the state in 2006, had a role to play in providing services to the people.

He said the club was to attract volunteers from the younger generation to help during emergencies.
