COWS ALLOWED TO GRAZE IN DANGER PLANTATION AGAIN

Cows allowed to graze in danger plantation again

MUAR: A herd of 600 cows that had to be moved out of a plantation near Grisek last week after plantation workers used weed killer to control undergrowth have returned to the plantation.

Cattle owner Barnin Sawo said the plantation management called him several days ago and asked him to bring the cattle which he had moved to Felcra Kundang Ulu.

He said the management assured him that plantation workers would not use weed killer again in the plantation, especially near where the cows were confined.

“I am very grateful to the management.”

The 600 cows, of Brahman stock, need at least 500ha of grassland to graze and the plantation has more than enough grassland, he said when releasing the animals in the plantation yesterday.

Barnin said the Muar Veterinary Department deployed three trucks and sent several officers to assist him relocate the animals from Kundang Ulu to Grisek.

He said although relocating the herd was tiring, and was dangerous for the cows, he had to do it as the animals needed a large roaming and grazing area.

He said the cows, including about 300 heads belonging to the Muar Veterinary Department, are being reared under an integrated cattle farming project with the plantation.
