FARMERS IN LEDANG SETTING AN EXAMPLE

LEDANG outshines other districts in the agricultural sector, withas revealed in many of its farmers clinchinghaving bagged many farming awards at in both the state and national levels.

Ledang Member of Parliament, Hamim Samuri said the fact that farmers in Sagil and Bukit Gambir were awarded with the national-level best farmer’s awards in 2008 and 2009 respectively showedproved that the sector would promises a lucrative income.

He said farmers in Tangkak this year werewas awarded with the state-level award and this had motivated them to compete at the national level.

“Ledang is the third largest producer of agricultural produce in Johor after Kulaijaya and Batu Pahat. This development will encourage serve as an impetus for farmers to progress further in the sector.

“I hope the agriculture sector will continue to grow and that our hope wish to set up small and medium-scale industries (SMI) to market agriculture produce can be carried implemented soon,” he said when launching the Ledang Agriculture Carnival in Sungai Mati, Muar, recently.

Hamim said the carnival, which was held in conjunction with the second anniversary of the declaration of Ledang as a district, was aimed at showcased agriculture, poultry and SMI products available in the district. Fifty-three participants and government representatives from government departments and agencies took part in joined the carnival.
