A SPECIAL DO BY SPECIAL CHILDREN

THE Tangkak Mentally Retarded Children Counselling Centre organised a Deeparaya do for 70 children at its premises in Jalan Hassan, Tangkak, recently.

SPECTACULAR: Students of the centre entertaining the crowd with dance and songs.

The centre is run by the Johor Association of State Assemblymen's Wives (Juita) under its state constituency community rehabilitation and counselling programme.

Attending the event was Tangkak state assemblyman Goh Tee Tee.

There are 74 children in the constituency who are seeking counselling services at the centre. Of the total, 36 attend classes regularly while the others are given counselling at their home.

At present, six counsellors are assisting the running of the centre.

Goh said the celebration provided an opportunity for the children to interact and made them feel there are someone who care and support them.

"The centre has been instrumental in playing a role to rehabilitate the children since it was set up in 1994. They are taught living skills that are essential to teach them to be independent," he said.

Tee announced an RM3,000 allocation to fund the centre to buy learning materials and equipment.

Each of the children was given treats and duit raya.

They were treated to a lunch.
