PARENTS GET IBU BAPA MITHALI AWARD FROM THE JOHOR STATE GOVERNMENT

JOHOR BARU: For religious teacher Md Noh Ma’ruf, 67, and his wife Fatimah Emran, 59, religion plays an important role in educating their children.

The couple, who has been married for 43 years, insisted that all their children must complete their khatam al-Quran because they believed that a strong religious foundation would lead to their success and happiness.

The couple were awarded the Ibu Bapa Mithali award 2008 by the Johor state government recently.

Their children include an optometrist, a doctor and a teacher. Their eldest son Othman Md. Nor is now teaching at SMK Tun Mamat, Tangkak

while the youngest child is pursing higher studies.

Othman said his father was a person who did not speak much but was strict to all of his children.

“My father taught us many skills especially when we were helping him on the farm,” he said.

Johor state executive councillor in charge of religious affairs Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman presented the couple with RM10,000 cash, clothing, a trophy, a bunch of Bunga Kasim and certificates for their award.
