JOHOR REP UNHURT IN ROAD CRASH

BATU PAHAT: Gambir assemblyman M. Asojan was lucky to escape unhurt in a road accident which resulted in the death of an Indonesian man.

Asojan, who is the state Unity, Human Resources, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman, and his driver were on their way to Johor Baru in his official car when the accident occurred at the 108th kilometre of the North-South Expressway near Yong Peng at 8.45am yesterday.

The driver of a Nissan, who was in the left lane and in front of Asojan’s Perdana V6, was trying to overtake the car directly in front of it when his vehicle hit the front left side of Asojan’s car.

The impact of the collision caused the Nissan driver to lose control, ramming the vehicle against the guardrail and ending up in a drain.

Johor traffic chief Supt T. Raveendran said Asojan and his driver were not injured but the Indonesian, who was a pas

senger in the Nissan, died at the scene from severe head injuries.

“The Nissan driver, who is a local, and two other passengers suffered light injuries. They have been sent to the Batu Pahat Hospital,” he said.

Supt Raveendran said police took a urine sample from the driver to test for alcohol or drugs.
