A YEAR TO WORK LIKE THE OX

MUAR: The Year of the Ox is going to present challenging times for many in the face of a global economic slowdown.

The ox is  still  used to harvest  oil palm at an estate in Tangkak.

But the ox is known to be a hardworking animal. The Chinese community believe that if one is willing to work hard in the coming year, one would be able to clear the hurdles.

Thus, the symbolism on the hardworking nature of the animal should not be lost in time of crisis.

Machinery and technology abound in these modern times, but the ox or buffalo apparently still has its place.

About 65 buffaloes were seen working at the Sagil Estate, which is owned by the IOI group, in Tangkak near here, .

The buffaloes were spotted pulling carts filled with harvested oil palm fruits.

It was learnt that the management of the estate preferred to use buffaloes instead of tractors because it was economical and environmentally friendly.
