THE Muar Municipal Council's first tourism brochure is expected to hit the streets soon. Council president Abdul Wahab Ridwan said the final draft is undergoing fine-tuning before being sent to the printer this month.

"I want the booklet to be comprehensive and contain all information that tourists need. I am open to views and suggestions to add more places of interest," he said.
The brochure, which will be given free, would contain information on accommodation, history, culture, buildings, eateries, sightseeing venues and fishing spots in Muar.
Some of Muar's culinary delights that will be featured include ikan asam pedas, otak-otak, mee rebus and mee bandung.
The interesting activities recommended are a visit to the Parit Tiram oyster fishing village and firefly homes, a boat ride to Pulau Besar and a trip to the legendary Gunung Ledang.
Wahab said Muar's attractions and achievements like having the most number of migratory birds stopping by, being a top furniture exporter, and its stunning lion and dragon dances would also be highlighted.
He said a steady flow of tourists to Johor, in particular Muar, would bring in a new source of revenue to offset the current global economic slowdown.

The council's tourism committee would also look into the proposals by Chris Lee Ching Yong, the special officer appointed by Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman to build replicas of the Lesser Adjutant stork (Leptoptilos javanicus) and the Chinese egret (egretta eulophotes) at its migratory site in Parit Jawa.
"Replicas of the lion and dragon dance and a furniture village will also be erected in town.
"Muar has so much to offer and the council is making every effort to make the town a 'must' visit tourist destination," he said.
