MUAR: More than 200 Sri Jaya Felda settlers in Bukit Serampang were shocked when they were asked to make deductions for having payments outstanding for fertiliser.
The settlers, who have been paying for fertiliser through monthly deductions on their incomes, were asked to pay between RM1,000 and RM3,000 each.
A spokesman for the group, Yassin Sidin, said they received notices about the payments from the Felda scheme’s management two weeks ago.
“We were shocked when told about the payments as we were not aware of it.
“We have received our monthly salary slips, which state the payments made to Felda, and it included payments for fertiliser,” he said in Felda Sri Jaya on Sunday.
Yassin said the slips showed no payment outstanding for fertiliser and the settlers were puzzled why the management asked them to make the payment.
He said the scheme, one of the earliest in Muar, had undergone replanting twice and the settlers had received titles for their plots from the state.
He said the settlers, including many single mothers whose husbands had passed away, wanted the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) to explain.
He said this was because the management gave different reasons to different settlers and they felt something was not right.
“We want the relevant minister or Felda headquarters in Kuala Lumpur to explain,” he added.
