The 3km-road, which connects Tangkak and Pekan Bukit Kangkar, is being damaged daily by lorries laden with palm oil, rubber, building materials and fruits.

Kampung Pengkalan Besar, Ledang Umno branch chief A. Majid Mahadi said the damaged road was also used as a short-cut route by school and factory buses.

He also said the potholes and cracks caused by the heavy vehicles was hazardous to students on bicycles and motorcycles, who ply the road everyday.

"A section of the damaged road has now been filled with granite stones which makes it even more dangerous for pedestrians and those on motorcycles and bicycles," he said.

"The road is also narrow, especially the path leading towards the interior parts of the area.

"Negotiating through that particular section is more difficult as vehicles are coming from both directions," he said.

He added that the villagers hoped that the road here would be upgraded.

Small-time trader, Ibrahim Saadon, 45, said that Kampung Pengkalan Besar, Ledang should be upgraded to make travelling more comfortable for road users, especially those on business trips to and from Pekan Kangkar.

He also said that the road was the main artery for several villages such as Paya Kepong, Kundang Telok Rimba and Ban Hap.
